Global University – Cuba Celebrates Historic First Graduation

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 - 2:39 PM CST

GUcubagraduationGlobal University - Cuba held its first graduation ever on December 14, 2014. A total of 417 students were honored at the graduation ceremonies, including 155 degree level graduates and another 262 students who earned certificates as a step toward earning a degree. This is the largest degree-level graduation ceremony in the history of Global University anywhere in the world.

Originally, the leadership of the Cuba Assemblies of God set a goal of enrolling 3,000 degree-level students. Global University developed a plan to simultaneously scholarship a student and send them a Kindle e-reader loaded with Spanish GU undergraduate courses. Funds were raised and enrollment climbed exponentially until e-readers were being shipped by the thousands.

Now in 2015, over 4,500 Kindles have been sent to Cuba. The latest enrollment numbers state that over 3,000 students are studying at the degree levels. In addition, 1,000 more are studying at the School of Evangelism and Discipleship’s Christian Service level for a total of 4,000 students, 1,000 more than the goal set at the beginning of the project.
