Several hundred new Evangel University students partnered with Convoy of Hope today (Saturday, Aug. 23), for a day of community service.
Many were in Silver Springs Park for a celebration geared toward the Weller neighborhood. The free event included games and face painting for the kids, and hot dogs and haircuts for all ages. It ran from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
The Evangel students also worked with area residents on maintenance and cleanup projects throughout the neighborhood, while others bagged groceries at Convoy of Hope’s World Distribution Center.
“We’re thrilled to once again work with Convoy of Hope to impact the Springfield community,” says Christy Rowden, activities director for Evangel. “Such service is an important part of the Evangel mission and experience.”
EU Launch activities got underway when the Evangel University residence halls opened on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.
Once again, Evangel anticipates students from all 50 states, as well as from numerous foreign countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Congo, Venezuela and The Bahamas.
