Kids do it again as BGMC giving breaks $6 million

Wed, 06 Mar 2013 - 3:20 PM CST

Assemblies of God boys and girls, with the help of parents and churches, broke $6 million in giving to Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge (BGMC) for the second time in BGMC history last year. Giving for 2012 totaled up to $6,028,427.67 - more than $125,000 over 2011 giving and missing the overall giving record set in 2009 by less than $12,000.

According to National BGMC Coordinator Mary Boyd, 35 districts gave more than they did in 2011, with 16 districts seeing increases each year for the last 3 to 6 years and 10 districts having their highest giving year ever.

"Since 1949, $114,034,369.83 has been raised for missionaries through BGMC," says Boyd. "Thanks to kids and churches across the country, millions of lives around the world have been touched and won to the kingdom of God through their selfless giving."

BGMC is dedicated to ministering to people by meeting critical needs through drilling water wells, funding feeding programs, supplying orphanages, assisting Bible schools, providing curriculum and whatever else a missionary needs in their part of the world to reach people for Christ.

For 2012, the Peninsular Florida district was the top-giving district, giving just over $404,000. This is the eighth time in the last 10 years that Peninsular Florida has led all districts in giving to BGMC. First Assembly of God in Fort Myers, Florida, was the top-giving church, raising more than $66,000 for BGMC.

David Boyd, BGMC national director, says he's pleased with the continued strong and growing support of BGMC by churches of all sizes.

"We are so blessed to have some big churches supporting BGMC in a big way," he says, "but we're also incredibly blessed to have so many smaller churches giving sacrificially to missions through BGMC. If you look at the per capita giving of some of our smaller churches - it is pretty amazing."

Sunday, March 10, is BGMC Day in the Assemblies of God. Churches are encouraged to recognize the kids, parents and leaders in their church who have helped to make BGMC so successful in reaching the world for Christ.
