Mega Sports Camp: Beyond the Gold

Outreach magazine recently recognized MEGA Sports Camp: Beyond the Gold, produced by Gospel Publishing House, as one of the Outreach Resources of the Year in its 10th annual review of some of the best outreach-oriented books and curricula offered to churches and ministries today.

Steve Adams, children's pastor at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, who has 20 years of experience in the field, was selected as this year's expert evaluator for the children's category. He gave high praise to Beyond the Gold.

"Everyone, in some way, can relate to sports," Adams says. "[Beyond the Gold] seems like a sure win to reach a community who may not know about God, but would be willing to get involved in a sports camp set up. This allows the church to be a part of the community and reach kids for Christ in a non-threatening environment."

Adams says another key reason he chose MEGA Sports Camp: Beyond the Gold for the distinction of being a resource of the year was its ease of use.

"This kit's resources can make a director out of anyone," he states. "It was clearly thought out, listed all the resources and/or provided them in the box. This 'outreach in a box' offers everything you need to run an amazing week of sports and devotions for community kids."

This is the third time in the last seven years that a MEGA Sports Camp product has been named an Outreach Resource of the Year.

"It's a great honor to have MEGA Sports Camp: Beyond the Gold receive this award," states Scott Berkey, national director of the Assemblies of God Children's Ministries Agency. "The team that produces it works hard to make sure that every element of MEGA Sports Camp is designed to help the local church reach out to the kids of their community. We are humbled to have others recognize MEGA Sports Camp and are grateful that it has impacted so many churches, families and participants."

Outreach editor Brian Orme stated in an online posting, "The Outreach Resources of the Year feature is itself a valuable resource for church leaders. It brings deserved attention to resources that can help churches better understand the culture we live in, the dynamics at work in a variety of settings, and how to share the gospel and reach our communities for Christ."

In all, 22 resources in 15 categories were chosen to be a part of the elite group of outstanding resources. According to Outreach, nearly 160 resources published between November 1, 2011, and October 31, 2012, were submitted to the magazine for consideration, with the winners being featured in the recently released March/April 2013 issue of Outreach.
