Southeastern University (AG)
Athletic Director Drew Watson, along with head golf coach Steve Phelps,
announced the addition of women's golf as a sponsored sport for the SEU Fire beginning in the fall of 2013.
In addition, The Club at Eaglebrooke Managing Director Dale Jacobs announced a
partnership between Eaglebrooke and Southeastern to make The Club at
Eaglebrooke the home course for Southeastern's men's and women's golf teams.
"I am excited to announce that Southeastern University will be starting
the sport of women's golf and that Steve Phelps has been selected as the head
coach," said Watson. "The Club at Eaglebrooke isn't just the finest
course in Lakeland, but it's also the best that Central Florida has to offer
and I'm excited to call it our home course."
Phelps is entering his fourth year as the Head Men's Golf Coach at
Southeastern. His 2009 team finished the season ranked No. 25 in the NAIA
after being ranked as high as No. 18 during that season.
"I'm excited to tackle the challenge of building a new program," said
Phelps. "Eaglebrooke is a beautiful golf course and I'm so excited for the
partnership to begin and to be able to host both men's and women's tournaments
here in the near future."
Phelps has already begun recruiting with the goal of bringing in 12 student
athletes to begin competition next fall. For more information on the
