The Assemblies of God has once again posted gains in adherents in the United States and worldwide. AG Statistician Sherri Doty states that for the calendar year 2011, as compared to 2010, the AG increased by .4 percent in the United States and 2 percent worldwide.
For the year 2011, Doty says the total U.S. adherents came in at 3,041,957. In the world, the total number of adherents increased to 65,398,796.
"Any growth is good growth," says Dr. George Wood, general superintendent of the Assemblies of God. "However, with the number of new church plants we're seeing this year, I fully believe that we'll have even stronger numbers in the U.S. and around the world next year."
According to the statistical release, water baptisms in the U.S. Assemblies of God increased by 2.3 percent to 126,774 and conversions were up by 6.7 percent, but Spirit baptisms were down 3.2 percent to 83,774. However, Doty says those statistics do not include baptisms or conversions occurring outside of the local church's ministries.
Doty adds that some statistical information for the 2011 calendar year is not yet finalized, but information will be posted here as it becomes available.
