"Any growth is good growth," says Dr. George Wood, general superintendent of the Assemblies of God. "However, with the number of new church plants we're seeing this year, I fully believe that we'll have even stronger numbers in the U.S. and around the world next year."
According to the statistical release, water baptisms in the U.S. Assemblies of God increased by 2.3 percent to 126,774 and conversions were up by 6.7 percent, but Spirit baptisms were down 3.2 percent to 83,774. However, Doty says those statistics do not include baptisms or conversions occurring outside of the local church's ministries.
Doty adds that some statistical information for the 2011 calendar year is not yet finalized, but information will be posted here as it becomes available.
