The Billion Soul Network, comprised of more than 1,300 denominations (including the Assemblies of God) and more than 400,000 churches worldwide, is challenging pastors and parishioners to make faithful church attendance commonplace again in America. In step with this "clarion call," Billion Soul has identified National Back to Church Sunday - September 16, 2012 - as a priority and opportunity for the nation.
Lifeway Research identified two compelling datapoints in church life: 82 percent of unchurched people said they would likely attend church if invited by a friend. Yet, less than 2 percent of Christians were actually inviting the unchurched to visit.
In view of these findings and the gospel opportunity they represent, Outreach, Inc., started the annual event, Back To Church Sunday, in 2009, as part of its vision to reach every home and every person in America with a personal invitation to a Bible-believing church.
In 2011, more than 7,000 churches representing more than 7,000,000 people participated in Back To Church Sunday. These numbers are expected to more than double this year.
