NAE drafts code of ethics

Fri, 15 Jun 2012 - 4:03 PM CST

The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), of which the Assemblies of God is a member, released a Code of Ethics for Pastors this week.

AG General Secretary Jim Bradford and AG Office of Hispanic Relations Director Efraim Espinoza were part of the team who crafted the three-page document, which includes a fourth and separate "signature" page for pastors to sign and commit to abide by the standards of the code.

"This is every pastor's opportunity to know, commit and tell others about a personal and professional standard of biblical pastoral ethics," NAE President Leith Anderson posted on the NAE website. "I invite every pastor and every church board to put this code of ethics on the agenda for an upcoming meeting. Discuss. Adopt. Live these standards."

The Code of Ethics for Pastors features five main sections with sub-points, including: Pursue Integrity, Be Trustworthy, Seek Purity, Embrace Accountability and Facilitate Fairness.

"Although I believe pastors do their best to be ethical in every area of life, sometimes having it written out before you brings areas to light that may not have been considered before or that a pastor may need to place more focus on," states AG General Superintendent George O. Wood. "I believe this code will assist ministers in knowing what to do and how to respond, in times of stress as well as success."
