Women focus ministry work in El Salvador

Mon, 15 Mar 2010 - 3:52 PM CST

Assemblies of God women focused on ministry to the Liceo Cristiano "Reverend Juan Bueno" school, in San José El Naranjo community of Ahuachapáu, El Salvador, during an October trip to the country.

AG District Women's Directors Linda Webb (Potomac), Linda Stamps-Dissmore (Oklahoma) and Cindy Fleig (Indiana) first visited the school in 2008, and after seeing the needs, went home to raise funds. The three directors returned, along with national Women's Director Arlene Allen and 20 women from the Potomac District, in October. Kenton and Elsie Moody, missionaries to El Salvador, hosted the women who worked at the school.

The three districts raised funds to build a teachers' dorm and administrative office. As the women arrived, they furnished the new dorm and office. Women also painted all buildings on campus inside and outside, and refurnished newly painted classrooms with students' and teachers' desks. Additionally, workers used more than 100 sticks of dynamite to clear an area to build a new full-size basketball court for the school.

At the end of the week, the school held an assembly and dedication service, sponsored by the Potomac District. The school had been established under the direction of then missionary to El Salvador John Bueno, now executive director of AG World Missions. Following the assembly, Convoy of Hope distributed food to families of the school's 257 students.

In 2008, women from U.S. churches gave in excess of $11 million to AG World and U.S. Missions, and Compassion Ministries.
