Sec. of Defense Gates announced on November 19, 2009, that Sec. West and Admiral Vern Clark have been appointed to head an investigation on the Ft. Hood killings and the military's systems for identifying potential subversive and destructive activity within the military structure.
Admiral Vern Clark is the retired Chief of Naval Operations, having served as CNO and on the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2000-2005. He is the second-longest serving CNO in U.S. history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vern_Clark
Adm. Clark is a 1967 graduate of Evangel University (then college) http://www.evangel.edu, having earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He has remained close to Evangel, speaking at Homecoming and Graduation on several occasions, as well as serving other functions. Adm. Clark was honored with Evangel's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1989.
