Approximately 90 Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) students will span the globe this summer on 11 Contact trips. Most of the teams left the first week of May. These teams will return by the end of May or first few days of June. There is also a team that leaves in June.
As part of SAGU's focus on missions, Southwestern Missions Association (SMA) orchestrates several missions trips every year. These "Contact" trips take place in the summer to allow students to spend more time in the field. Student leaders prepare for these trips through a training trip during spring break.
This year, there are 11 Contact teams ministering in various locations. A team went to the Republic of Georgia to work among refugee populations in humanitarian assistance. SAGU students in the Dominican Republic are doing youth ministry through outreaches and camps. Meanwhile, the team in Nicaragua is involved in community outreaches, construction and orphanage work.
The Kenya team will be involved in outreach and school programs while the Ghana team is ministering through village outreach and distributing the "Book of Hope." A team of SAGU students is also in North Africa, ministering through education, prayer walking and believer encouragement.
SAGU students are also in Bangladesh, serving the local church in areas of media production and creative arts as well as helping in a children's home. The team in Southeast Asia will be involved in prayer walking and personal evangelism. The Thailand team is ministering through English camps, evangelism and local church outreaches.
A group of Lady Lions basketball players went to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to serve the community through outreach and community development. There is also a team going to Argentina in June. The Argentina team will be working in evangelism and church growth.
