The Assemblies of God Discipleship Ministries Agency has announced that Tony Dungy, former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be a guest speaker during its General Council luncheon to be held August 5, 2009, at the Rosen Centre, in Orlando, Florida.

"We are thrilled to have a man of Tony Dungy's class and integrity join us for our 53rd General Council in Orlando," said Alton Garrison, AG assistant general superintendent. "Christ calls us to be different people, reflected in our lifestyles and we are looking forward to hearing Coach Dungy talk about what it means to live an uncommon life."

Dungy, the first African-American head coach to lead his team to a Super Bowl title, retired from the Indianapolis Colts following the 2008-09 season. During his tenure, his remarkable success on the field still didn't match his off-the-field contributions. Grounded by his strong Christian faith, Dungy has been involved in a wide variety of charitable organizations, including All Pro Dad, Abe Brown Ministries, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Boys & Girls Clubs. He also works with Baskets of Hope, The Black Coaches Association, Indiana Black Expo, the United Way of Central Indiana and the American Diabetes Association.

Dungy is also a bestselling author. His memoir, "Quiet Strength," reached No. 1 on the "New York Times" bestsellers list in July 2007 and is one of the best-selling sports titles in history. His children's book, "You Can Do It," also reached No. 1 on the "Times'" list, while his newest book, "Uncommon," ascended to the No. 2 position.

In his luncheon message, Dungy will challenge attendees, daring them to be "uncommon." He passionately believes that there is a path to significance, a path characterized by attitudes, ambitions and allegiances that are all too rare but uncommonly rewarding. He'll also be sharing some of the lessons he's learned on achieving significance in his journey with God.

During the afternoon, Dungy will be signing copies of his latest book, "Uncommon," in the Exhibit Hall. Persons prebuying the book from GPH will receive priority signing.

Tickets for the Discipleship Ministries Luncheon may be purchased for $35. Due to the two-hour allotted time for book signing, there will be a limited number of people whose book will be signed. To help accommodate this, Discipleship Ministries is offering a GC09 pre-buy special. A limited number of "Uncommon," are available for $20. They may be picked up on site in Orlando just prior to the signing. For more information and to purchase the book or luncheon tickets, click here. All luncheon attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a signed football.

The 53rd General Council convenes in Orlando, Florida, August 3-7, 2009. For more information on the event, see www.ag.org.
