• Ask for God’s wisdom and direction. “Do not be anxious about
anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6, NIV).
• Pray for the approval process. “Then Jesus told his
disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not
give up…” (Luke 18:1, NIV).
• Pray for God’s favor upon your dream to start a club.
• List adults in your church who will join you in prayer for this new campus club. Prayer Zone Partners helps enlist adults to join the continued prayer support for school communities.
• Make a list of students interested in forming a Youth Alive club.
• Schedule an initial appointment with your principal.
a) Warmly approach him/her with the idea of starting a club. (Use "Meeting With the Principal" available on the Youth Alive PDF Resources page.)b) Inform him/her of your personal interest and share the list of students during your meeting.
c) Ask your principal to inform you of the school policy and procedure for pursuing the request.
d) Thank him/her for meeting with you.
e) If you sense any apprehension from him/her, refer to the "Overcoming Obstacles" PDF on the Youth Alive PDF Resources page.
f) Step four will guide you through the formal request process.
• Make a list of at least three businesses, churches and community leaders who will support the formation of your club.
a) These community leaders will strengthen your effectiveness and provide a means of sponsorship for the club.b) Many people are waiting for someone to ask them to make a difference on a local school campus.
c) Present your list to your principal or administration during your formal presentation.
• If possible, identify a faculty advisor and list him/her on your list of supporters.
• Schedule a presentation appointment with the principal or administration of your school.
• Be organized. The following documents will help you make an excellent presentation and are available on the Youth Alive PDF Resources Web site: "Charter Application," "Youth Alive Constitution," and "The Student’s Bill of Rights."
• Wear appropriate clothing.
• Demonstrate a positive and respectful attitude. You may
not receive an immediate answer to your request. Be patient, but be
persistent.
• If your presentation is initially denied, see "Overcoming Obstacles" and "The Student's Bill of Rights" available online.
• Upon approval, send in your completed "Charter Application."
• Gain support. Youth Alive has a growing number of full-time district Youth Alive directors
ready to assist, train and help you as an official Youth Alive club.
They can help you get the latest information on campus ministry events
and can assist you in finding legal helps. As a nationally-chartered
club, you will receive four leadership newsletters full of inspiration
and resources each school year. Once your application has been
processed, you will receive a Youth Alive Charter Certificate
to be displayed in your school.
